![]() Gothic 1 > Risen 1 > Gothic 2 (+ NotR) > Risen 3 > Risen 2 > Gothic 3 I played through both Risen 2 and 3 pretty quickly for my standard but Gothic 3 took me a long time to finish due to it's rather grindy nature. The fighting system also got improved and the game features several easter eggs for Gothic fans. Risen 3 also has a pirate setting and several islands but you can travel between them earlier on than in Risen 2. That was one big point of critique for many. In the beginning, you can't access most of them, in the end you can travel between them as you wish. Risen 2 also features multiple islands instead of one connected world. Kinda like Gothic 2: NotR added a pirate faction in a medieval world. ![]() You will also still find plenty of elements that remind you of the Risen 1 setting, it's not a fully fledged pirate game in that way. Risen 2 has more of a pirate setting but that doesn't really change the feel of the game that much. The fighting system isn't very refined in especially Risen 2, the optimal strategy in fights feels pretty cheesy but fighting was never the strong suit of PB anyways. ![]() Don't expect them to be quite as good but they still do the things well that Piranha Bytes is loved for. If you love Risen 1, you can't really go wrong with 2 and 3. I think 'Hard' difficulty should be, well, 'hard' no matter the combat style you choose. I am proud of squeezing the most out of the equipment which I am given, and I think it's fair to say that, if one option is obviously much stronger than the others, then the game is not balanced to be difficult as long as said option is available. No such problems here.Īs for sword and shield, I think it's part of the fun to find the best way to defeat enemies in games, be it an AI exploit, a min-max build, an OP weapon, etc. ![]() Think back to Gothic 2 Gold, where the only way to kill everything on the map and become overlevelled in Chapter 1 was to use a transformation scroll. I think a part of the challenge should be getting to the point where you are overlevelled, whereas in this game, it was easy. In this game, I could kill most things from the get-go, and the game never really got harder (I could easily demolish lizardmen when I started Chapter 3, and it did not get harder from there). In Gothic 1 and 2, it took a bit of effort to get to a point where you can kill all the wildlife on the level with ease.
